Bujáki Zsolt

Egy PICi lépés tőled, nagy lépés a koraszülött gyerekek számára!

"New Day – New Hopes"
2019.10.05.

Emellett a tapasztalatlanabb orvosok oktatását is lehetővé teszi.

Kérek mindenkit, hogy lehetőségeit figyelembe véve segítsen a PICiknek!

Procurement of a video laryngoscope for the premature intensive care (PIC) unit at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Semmelweis University in Üllői Street

Why is it important to have access to a laryngoscope at premature intensive care units?
This device can help make the vocal cords and the glottis visible, it helps with the safe administration of the surfactant needed for adequate breathing, and if necessary, ventilation can also be provided through a tube with its use. There are more than 4,000 babies born at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Semmelweis University in Üllői Street every year. More than 500 of these babies “visit” the premature intensive care unit for a shorter or longer period. Some are term babies, who are mature newborns with minor respiratory problems, but mostly they are children born before the 37th gestation week who need special care and treatment. The shorter time a baby spends in the uterus, the less developed the lungs are, and the more likely it is that respiratory support or ventilation is needed. Premature babies born with a birth weight lower than 1,500 grams (around 120 babies annually at this unit) frequently need a so called surfactant, which is an indispensable substance needed for the proper functioning of the lungs. For ventilation and the administration of the surfactant it is necessary to make the glottis visible with the help of a laryngoscope. A traditional laryngoscope is also suitable for this, but the video laryngoscope makes the process easier and safer, while it also enables the training of doctors having less experience with this procedure.

The video laryngoscope makes the ventilation of several hundred premature babies easier and safer every year and it also facilitates the training of doctors having less experience with this procedure.

Related event - "New Day – New Hopes"

2019-10-05

“New Day – New Hopes” is a new community fundraising event the central element of which is a walk starting late at night and finishing at sunrise. The main participants of the morning walk are fundraising Ambassadors who, through their participation in the event, collect funds for a Good Cause of their choosing in their own circle of friends.

The concept and the spirit of the event are built around two thoughts: the dawn after the night, the sunrise, which symbolizes hope and optimism in the future and the common walk that reflects the cooperation between individuals and organizations. All of this without any political overtones, the event is solely focused on the activities of NGOs and on fundraising.

The morning walk will take place on 5. Octobre 2019 (Saturday), its planned route will be from the Széll Kálmán square to the top of the Gellért Hill (about 3.5 km). The planned departure time is 5:00, the sun rises at 6:47, and the program ends with a common breakfast after sunrise.

" There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope."
(Bernard Williams)
